Bayern Munich vs Villarreal: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Bayern Munich will seek to avoid a shock exit from the Champions League when they welcome Villareal to the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.

The pre-tournament favourites were stunned 1-0 away from home last week, with Arnaut Danjuma’s early goal enough to secure a famous victory for the Yellow Submarine.

It leaves Bayern needing to win by at least two goals to seal a spot in the semi-final, where they would meet either Benfica or Liverpool, but a draw would be enough for Villarreal to advance to the final four for the first time since 2006.

Here’s all you need to know about this one.

When is kick off? Tuesday 12 April, 20:00 (BST)
Where is the match being played? Allianz Arena
TV channel/live stream? BT Sport 3 (UK), Paramount+ (US)
Highlights? BT Sport YouTube channel
Referee? Slavko Vinčić (SVN)
VAR? Massimiliano Irrati (ITA)

Lucas Hernandez is expected to be available after missing Saturday’s win over Augsburg with a thigh issue, so he could return to a defence that may be without Niklas Sule after the centre-back complained of feeling unwell.

Bouna Sarr, Corentin Tolisso and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting all remain out.

Long-term absentee Alberto Moreno is the only confirmed problem for manager Unai Emery to contend with, but striker Boulaye Dia will face a late fitness test on a muscle injury.

Emery made a massive 11 changes to his team to draw 1-1 with Athletic Club at the weekend and could do exactly the same again here to field the same side that saw off Bayern in the first leg.

There’s no denying that Bayern have been off it recently. They’re a great team but they’ve not been playing like one.

Julian Naglesmann appeared to realise that at the weekend, hauling off Serge Gnabry for Jamal Musiala and giving Kingsley Coman the keys to the attack later in the game, and he’ll expect a significant improvement in their performance for this game.

Don’t underestimate Villarreal, whose stars are all fresh after their rest at the weekend, but it’s hard to look past Bayern here. They might take it to extra-time, but however they go about it, they’ll be expecting to win.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3-1 Villarreal
