Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Alejandro Garnacho’s future at Manchester United, with the news likely to delight the Old Trafford faithful.
What’s the word?
The Italian journalist tweeted: “Manchester United are working on new deal for the Argentinian talent Alejandro Garnacho. Talks already started to get things done by this year. Man Utd plan is to offer a five-year deal as Garnacho is considered a huge talent.”
United fans will be buzzing
He clearly caught the eye with his performances, as he also made two substitute appearances in the Premier League last season despite being just 17-years-old.
Will Garnacho be first-team next season?
Those at the club clearly have a lot of faith in Garnacho if they are willing to offer him such a long-term deal and given Erik ten Hag’s reputation for developing youngsters at Ajax, it would perhaps not be a surprise to see Garnacho knocking on the first-team door next season.
The teenage forward has also caught the eye of Argentina manager Lionel Scaloni, as he earned a call-up to the national squad last season, although he is yet to make his full debut.
Considering Garnacho’s obvious potential, United fans will surely be delighted that the club are making moves to get him tied down to a new long-term deal.
Other than Marcus Rashford and Scott McTominay, United have struggled to turn academy prospects into first-team regulars in recent seasons, but if Garnacho’s first season is anything to go by, it won’t be long until he is fully established at Old Trafford.
With Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Edinson Cavani having all departed the club this summer on free transfers, ten Hag will be looking for attacking reinforcements ahead of next season, but he may already have United’s next best thing waiting in the academy.
